Oh the summer light is dying
the nights are getting cold and crisp
and our sunshine hours like gentle flowers
are closing like a fist
we cover up our naked arms
just like the dark sky on the land
left overnight like shiny marbles in
a game played in the sand

My little baby laughs
while looking deep into my eyes
and her mother stands before the stove
quietly cooking while she sighs
and an old dog barks outside
between my pickup and the moon
I wonder how much gas is left in it
Lord I need a job real soon

But by the grace of you I go
when the answers come too slow

with winter panic setting in
and all it’s friends dressed up to kill

At night I stumble to our room
and feel the quiet stillness there
